Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Dean of Culture and Climate is responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful school culture in alignment with the school’s mission and values. This role plays a vital part in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment by proactively addressing student behavior, supporting social-emotional development, and collaborating with staff, students, and families to build a strong school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of school-wide behavior expectations, positive behavior interventions, and restorative practices.

  • Promote a positive school climate by modeling respectful communication and relationship-building with students, families, and staff.

  • Support teachers in classroom management strategies and serve as a resource for behavior intervention.

  • Monitor school-wide discipline data and implement strategies to reduce suspensions, bullying, and chronic behavior issues.

  • Coordinate and lead behavior intervention meetings (e.g., with students, teachers, families) and ensure follow-through with support plans.

  • Develop systems and programs to recognize and reward positive student behavior and attendance.

  • Work closely with social workers, counselors, and special education staff to ensure students' social-emotional needs are met.

  • Facilitate professional development sessions on culture, climate, and equity.

  • Support crisis prevention and intervention efforts, including de-escalation and conflict resolution.

  • Actively participate in school leadership team meetings and contribute to school improvement planning.


Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Valid state certification in education or administration preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a school setting, preferably in leadership, student support, or behavior management.

  • Demonstrated experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), restorative practices, and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trusting relationships.

  • Committed to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.

Work Environment:

  • This position works primarily in a school building with daily interaction with students and staff.

  • May require occasional evening meetings or school events.
