Job Description:

General Description:  

The Athletic Director is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the athletic programs at Tindley Accelerated Schools. This role ensures compliance with athletic regulations, oversees sports staff and budgets, and promotes a positive, safe, and competitive environment for student-athletes.  

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and maintains all athletic programs in alignment with the school’s mission, vision, and core values.  

  • Coordinates athletic schedules, transportation, officials, and use of facilities.  

  • Supervises and evaluates coaches and other athletic staff.  

  • Ensures compliance with IHSAA regulations and school board policies.  

  • Manages the athletic budget, including ordering equipment, uniforms, and supplies.  

  • Promotes student participation in athletics and monitors academic eligibility.  

  • Ensures the maintenance and safety of athletic fields, courts, and gymnasiums.  

  • Serves as the liaison between the school, families, and athletic associations.  

  • Organizes sports banquets, awards programs, and promotional events.  

  • Addresses concerns from students, parents, and the community regarding athletic programs.  

  • Recruits and retains qualified coaching staff in accordance with HR policies.  

  • Submits reports and documentation as required by the school or governing bodies.  

  • Provides leadership in the development of a comprehensive athletic philosophy and culture.  

Experience and Skills:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Comprehensive understanding of athletic program management and coaching techniques.  

  • Familiarity with IHSAA rules and regulations.  

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills .  

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and the community.  

  • Budget management experience preferred.  

  • Experience in coaching or leading sports programs at the secondary school level.  

  • Ability to supervise and mentor coaching staff.  

  • Capacity to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and games.  

Training and Experience:  

Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education , Sports Management, Education Administration, or a related field required . Master’s Degree preferred.  
Previous experience as a coach or in athletic administration preferred.
